Description
This is a complete listing of ICD-10-CM Tabular code numbers, their
associated category and full text descriptions, and general equivalence
mapping (crosswalk) to ICD-9-CM. Based on and comparable with the
United Nations WHO (World Health Organization) ICD-10 system, this
version is the proposed United States’ clinical modification (CM). Its
intent is to be a more useful tool than the current ICD-9-CM to classify
morbidity data for indexing of medical records, medical care review, and
ambulatory and other medical care programs, as well as for basic health
statistics. To describe the clinical picture of the patient, the CM
version must be more precise than those needed only for the reporting of
healthcare mortality and morbidity.
Note:
ICD-10-CM was developed by the WHO
Collaborating Center for the Family of International Classifications in
North America, housed at the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS),
which has the responsibility for the implementation of ICD and other
WHO-FIC classifications and serves as a liaison with the WHO, fulfilling
international obligations for comparable classifications and the
national health data needs of the United States. While numerous other
countries have developed and implemented modified versions of the WHO
ICD-10 (Example: ICD-10-CA for Canada), the codes in ICD-10-CM are not
currently valid for any purpose or use. There is not yet an anticipated
implementation date for the ICD-10-CM. Implementation will be based on
the process for adoption of standard under HIPAA. Updated annually in
January.
