UPINs are Unique Physician Identification Numbers assigned by HCFA and used to comply with Medicare claim coding requirements. This data file contains information on physicians who provide services for which payment is made under Medicare, as defined in Section 186(r) of the Social Security Act - medical doctors, osteopaths, doctors of dental surgery and chiropractors. This data is provided for entire United States, US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
