Description

The HCPCS National Code data file contains the entire listing of HCPCS National Codes, their full long descriptions. The descriptions are up to 250 characters in length. National codes are used by providers to report supplies, durable medical equipment (DME), non-physician services and injectables to Medicare and other payers. Updated annually in January.

Record Layout - Fixed Field:

Field	Columns			Description
1	1	-	5	HCPCS Code Number
2			7	Sequence letter (A,B,C, etc.)
3	8	-	74	Long Description Fragment

   NOTE:    If a code description is longer than 67 characters, it has been broken into multiple records and marked with a sequence letter. The longest description is under 250 characters in length. Therefore, no more than 4 fragments are ever used to supply a particular HCPCS Long Description.
