Prior to the creation of a single conversion factor, Medicare identified services according to the following classifications:

Field Options

     S    =    Surgical procedure
    N    =    Non-surgical procedure
    P    =    Primary care service
    0    =    Service is not paid under fee schedule

The use of a single conversion factor obviates the need for such distinctions, therefore the field has been left blank.
